Why we love it

  • It’s one of my favorite tools. I carry it with me every day.

(Mr. A, male in his 20s, company employee)

I use it daily to organize my schedule, or just to draw for a change
of pace. I like how using the Multi8 feels just like drawing with
colored pencils. It lets me control how far the lead extends from the
tip, giving me the same artistic freedom as using colored pencils.
I can use eight colors with a single pencil, and I don’t have to
worry about suddenly running out of ink as I would with a ballpoint pen.

  • It’s something I always carry in my travel bag.

(Ms. M, female in her 30s, company employee)

The great things about the Multi8 are how compact it is—and how
easy it is to carry around. I have a large set of colored pencils
at home, but I love taking the Multi8 when I’m traveling or just walking
around. And since I can use it for both writing and drawing,
I can jot down memories and impressions in a notebook when I’m traveling.
It’s a fantastic product. I hope the Multi8 gains attention from many people.

  • It’s a lovely companion to have when meeting clients.

(Ms. H, female in her 40s, artist)

I use it to make rough sketches to give clients an idea of what the
piece I’m creating for them will look like. I used to use a 24-color set
of colored pencils. But that meant I had to take a pencil sharpener
in case a lead broke, which made my bag fairly bulky. I can just pop the
Multi8 into my pencil case and carry it around in a small bag. It’s
super convenient. I always recommend it to colleagues. Now it’s
    a lovely companion for me.

  • It’s a pencil that brings color to my childrearing experiences.

(Ms. Y, female in her 40s, company employee)

I use it a lot in my parenting. When my daughter was little, I kept
a diary to keep track of my parenting. I used different colors
to record the times I changed her diapers, breastfed, and so on.
Now she’s in elementary school—I use it to draw pictures in the
correspondence notebook I exchange with her teacher. My daughter
likes it when I add a picture. It seems to get her motivated. The
Multi8 is really convenient because I can take it out right away and
draw a picture quickly whenever I want.

These are just a few of users’ impressions of the Multi8 series.

FAQ

asked questions.

QHow do I use it?
  1. 1. Click the top knob to release the lead.
Close your fingers to catch the lead as it drops.
Use your fingertip to adjust the length of the lead, so that it protrudes
    about 3 mm.

  2. 2. To return the lead, turn the pencil tip upward and click the top knob.
Be sure to return the lead all the way back into the lead reservoir.
If you rotate the clip without returning the lead all the way, the lead protection mechanism will work and the clip will just spin. You won’t be able to select a new lead color.
To avoid damage, do not press the top knob too hard against a desktop
    or the like.

  3. 3. To select a new color, rotate the clip until it lines up with the color you want.

QHow do I replace a lead?
  1. Once a lead is 15 mm or shorter, the pencil will not operate properly, so please replace the lead.
To remove a used lead, align the lead refill indicator with the mark and click
and hold the top knob to keep the chuck wide open while removing the lead.
Click the top knob once again to open the chuck. Insert a new lead.
When using the pencil, make sure the lead refill indicator and the mark are not aligned to keep the lead from dropping out even if you click the top knob
    by mistake.

QI can’t select a lead. / The lead won’t come out.

The following are possible causes:

1. Is the lead fully retracted? If you rotate the clip before the lead is fully retracted, the lead protection mechanism will work and the clip will just spin.
Return the lead all the way before rotating the clip to select a new lead.
<If this doesn’t solve the problem>
If the clip just spins even with the lead fully retracted, the problem may be caused by friction in the clip mechanism.
If so, the clip needs to be replaced. Please contact Customer Service Office.

2. Are any of the leads broken? Are there two leads in the same compartment? Just as when replacing a lead, align lead refill indicator with the mark, turn the pencil tip downward, and click the top knob several times
to remove the lead and reinsert correctly.

QThe lead that comes out is a different color from what the clip indicates.
  1. Check if the marks on the clip are misaligned. With the lead protruding,
rotate the clip to align the marks.
Then, return the lead to the lead reservoir and rotate the clip to select a lead
so that the lead of the color indicated by the clip comes out.

Other usage precautions

・ Use only Pentel Multi8 exclusive replacement leads.

・ Use the pencil only for drawing and writing.

・ To avoid choking risks, avoid small parts (such as the top knob) entering your mouth.

・ Keep out of reach of small children.

・ Avoid writing or drawing with the pencil/pen tip pointing upward. This may cause issues with writing or drawing, or ink leakage
(in the case of a ballpoint pen).

・ Retract the lead before carrying or storing the pencil.

・ Avoid leaving the pencil in places that become hot.
